I am keeping it at whatever the original settings are.most of them seem to be around 500-600 by 200-300. Right now I am not adjusting the aspect ratio at all. If you're only encoding for the iPhone, then less video and audio bitrate shouldn't be too noticeable and will create smaller files. A simple explanation of settings: B-frame: The more you have, the smaller the file. I am starting off with the Apple > Apple TV preset. Some settings could produce better results if you're only doing AppleTV encodes, but the iPhone/iPod seriously restrict things. These settings have produced some seriously high quality encodes that are ipod and appleTV compatible. You can change this or add any additional audio tracks found on the DVD such as alternate languages or Director’s Commentary tracks. I can get audio with no issues, but I get a green screen. There are so many options, it can get pretty daunting. Using Handbrake is relatively straightforward, with built-in presets included for the iPod and the Apple TV. manual operation, and five settings for automatic mode.
